Orphan Black - Season 3 Episode 07: Community of Dreadful Fear and Hate

Description
An orphan gets caught up in a deadly conspiracy after learning that she is a clone.  Just as Sarah and her clone sisters were beginning to piece together the complex conspiracy behind the shadowy Dyad Institute, the discovery of Project Castor – a top-secret military project producing highly-trained male clones – throws their lives back into turmoil.

I pleaded for more "multilayered texture" to "lighten the mood," and as if part of some cruel trick, tonight's episode of Orphan Black obliges with an hour of paper-thin comic contrivances, all topped with a generous sprinkling of mawkish sentiment.

Tatiana Maslany is as meticulous with Alison as Alison is with...well, everything.

It was also a respite from the exhausting saga of the Castors-something I think all us Orphan Black fans can agree was desperately needed.

I think one of the most ingenious bits of storytelling here, though, was the ticking clock put on Donnie's nose (by none other than Pouchy, the guy who chopped off Vic's finger).

Not only did the episode slow the momentum gained from the previous two episodes, but it almost made Paul's death seem inconsequential.

Without the Castor boys, this episode felt old-school season 1 ... and it's something we needed after last week's throwdown.

It's been a while since we had a good old clone club switcharoo, so watching Alison and Cosima juggle speeches and photo ops was a great call back to early Orphan Black days.

Strangely, the School Trustee drama is actually more tense and compelling than much of the military prison action of the past few episodes.

Family was the thematic center of the episode and it really worked.

Sheila McCarthy as Alison's mom Connie was brilliant casting: Her overbearing, perfectionist ways spoke so much to Alison's composition and stressed-out mannerisms - a classic nature vs. nurture, if you will.
