The mystery still lingers when a cyclone disables their boat. The crew sails in the eye of the storm, discovering a high-tech Russian communications and research vessel. One Russian crew member is still alive, talking about 'smart lightning.' They soon discover that a strange form of life has taken over the ship's computers and the mechanical warriors. With the destruction of their own boat, the crew must fight the creature with the ship's return to the storm.

Until the diverting special effects take center stage, this story, about an alien intelligence that builds an army out of flesh and metal, pathetically exploits genre conventions without generating self-reference, camp, or thrills.
